As part of Junior Firefighter Camp, participants learned what it takes to get someone out of a car when there's been a crash. Firefighter Mark Griffin demonstrated how a hyraulic tool can be used to get a door off a car to safely get a person injured in a crash out of the vehicle. Sixteen 12-year-olds spent the weekend at the camp, learning everything they could about the lives of volunteer firefighters. The Minnesota Department of Education released results from the inaugural online Science MCA-II tests. In each of the three levels tested, fifth, eighth and students in high school who have completed life science, District 191 students scored higher than state averages. About 184,570 Minnesota students in grades 5, 8 and high school took the first-ever Science Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment – Series II (MCA-II) in 2008.
